Before I begin I have to state that I can't stand the revision to the blog format. I lost everything I just wrote. Why can't electronic sites leave well enought alone!!!
It seems as though Mother's Day is really a 2 part celebration. The first is a celebration of our mothers. Since JR and I have both lost our mothers the day is a celebration of memories laced with some emptiness and loneliness. Then there is the celebration of our own motherhood. This day has always been tricky. When we are young mothers, we balanced the day between our own family celebrating us and our honoring our mothers. As our children become adults and have their own families the dynamic changes and becomes at times a logistic nightmare. Since my son and his family are almost 3 hours away, it is somewhat simpler. They simply are not close enough to get together for a breakfast, brunch or supper (and I did just see them last Sunday for a birthday/early Mother's Day celebration). Hopefully this simplifies their day. However I have noticed that feelings can be hurt when everyone can't get together. I do not know what the solution is. From my perspective, I am content to do my thing on Mother's Day. I do not always have to have everyone around me. It probably comes from being an only child and never having family close enough to get together for holidays and special days. Regardless of whether I am with family or not I know that I am loved and that my son is a fabulous person. I guess I have to say that "I did good".
