TOO MUCH SNOW

Whew! Today's ride into work - well- was work! The roads were bad and the semi trucks fast. Not a good combination. I am so ready for winter to be over. The picture today is the cement goose in our front yard. She actually has a Christmas cape and hat on. Right now you can only see a portion of her neck and her head. Late Night Visitors

The other night there were two deer in our yard around 8:30pm. John woke me from a sound sleep at 12:30am to see four deer in the yard. I woke up around 3:30am and two of the deer were bedded down by the house. One was right next to a bush that is right up against the house. The deer prints were taken from the deck and they lead to the beds by the house. I have always been amazed that they feel safe enough in my yard to bed down. Usually they stay for about two hours. In keeping with my goal of reading some poetry this winter I read Love's Philosophy by Percy Bysshe Shelley. It talks about that nothing in the world is single: rivers mingle with oceans, mountains kiss high heaven etc. The last four lines of the first stanza are:

"Nothing in the world is single

All things by a law divine

In one another's being mingle:-

Why not I with thine?"

I will not put any OSU trivia in this posting. There is probably enough in it right now.

Love

I was going to have a picture of our deer at 10pm at night but it was not as clear as I would have liked. These are Northern California deer. Since the deer appear to be in love and we are going to be celebrating our 40th anniversary, I thought that over the next several months I would try to read 40 poems/short stories. The first is obvious: I Corinthians 13. Verse 5 is "it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful". Something to keep in mind. I also would like to add some Buckeye trivia. This is from "Do You Know The Ohio State Buckeyes?" by Guy Robinson. It was a Christmas stocking gift.

Another Winter Day

Once more just a typical winter day. We watched the birds and squirrels feed at the bird feeders this morning. The deer came through last night around 9 PM but I was not able to get a good picture of them. They were just passing through not stopping to rest or eat. The picture I included today is a male cardinal in the tree. They are so pretty and at least lend a bit of color to the landscape. I am going to see a stage performance of "Footloose" tonight. At least I recognize the music and it should be entertaining.

Oh baby it's cold outside

Wow!! It was very cold today. I worked from 9-4 and it was -9 on the way to work. I doubled up on clothes and actually was comfortable at work. Tomorrow I plan on staying inside and catching up on taped TV shows, housecleaning, laundry, reading and napping. Actually quite a full day! Since I am tired of looking at the snow, I have another picture from California. It is just nice to see sunshine and beautiful water. I am enjoying writing this and I just hope that some of you are reading it.

A good healthy winter soup

When I wrote my blog this morning I forgot to thank my friend Linda for not only coming over to house and helping me set up this blog BUT also for helping to dislodge John's car from a snow drift in the driveway. So thank you Linda. For those of you expecting thank you notes for your Christmas gifts, I will get them out this weekend. Silly things like new blogs kept getting in the way. I also made a new soup recipe last night and it was really good. It is a meatball soup and made with turkey meatballs. It takes some onion 2 chopped celery ribs and 15 baby carrots sauted in olive oil until the carrots are soft. Add one 14oz cans each of Italian diced tomatoes, cannellini beans (white navy beans)and low sodium chicken broth. To that add 3/4 cups each of fresh green beans and chopped cabbage. Bring to a boil. The recipe then calls for 36 meatballs to be added along with a little salt and pepper. Simmer for at least 20 minutes. I used premade frozen turkey meatballs and so let the soup simmer for a least 10-15 minutes longer. When serving you can top with some mozzerella cheese. For those in the family that use diabetic exchanges they are: 2 lean meat, 1 starch, 1 vegatable, 1 fat. This is the best time of year for soups although I can eat soup any time. The picture that I included today is another picture from California. This one is of John, Uncle Willie, Beau and Rick (seated). I guess white hair runs in the family.

I decided to post two days in a row just to get the feel of it. It is very cold here, in the single digits. I work 1-6 so at least I did not have to go outside in the early morning cold. I try to read from Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much now and then. My sister-in-law gave me the book years ago. There is a page for each day. The one for January 15 talks about "making good use of bad rubbish". It says that when we get stuck in our blame, anger, hurt and denial we suffer and it is up to us to turn it around. Easy to say but hard to do. I am going to put up a picture of a falcon that we saw last week in California. Please note the beatiful blue sky. The bird is also very gorgeous.

This is the first posting of my new blog. I am hoping to be able to "share" my days with family and friends. This could be scarry for anyone reading this. You might not want to get to know me that well. It has been a very snowy few days and here are a few pictures that I would like to share everyone. The top picture is from our bedroom window and boy! do we have icicles. The bottom picture is from our deck a few days ago. It is the perfect day to curl up in a favorite chair and read a good book. However since it was my day off I met with a few friends for coffee and then went to the movies with two friends to see Doubt. It was very good. I guess this will be all for my first day.
