MYRNA AND CONCERTS

My friend Myrna had a hip replaced a week ago. She came home from the hospital on Monday. Since her husband had to be at work (an attorney), her friends took over the care giving and cooking. I had the late afternoon shift on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I took the early afternoon shift. I was to do dinner on the previous Saturday but she was still in the hospital. I am going to help with her birthday dinner tomorrow. I am going to do the salad, bread and birthday cake.

Friday night I attended the Keith Urban concert here in town. I like his music but have never been a wild fan. I always wondered why he was nominated so often for entertainer of the year since he seems like such a laid back person. Well, let me tell you that his show is full of energy and fantastic displays on the guitar. Really a good show. The only negative was the soap opera unfolding in the two seats in front of us. It went from heavy smooching to arguments to face slapping (she hit him) to his tears (such a drama king)! I can only say that I am glad not to be dating. It looks awful.

TEA PARTY

Not that tea party! This past week the grandkids were up. On Thursday I hosted a tea party with my granddaughter for several other girls and either their grandmothers or aunts. It was supposed to be about 13 people but due to travel plans it whittled it's way down to 7. Everyone was to wear a hat. It was fun for me and I hope that all the girls that attended enjoyed it also. My granddaughter did not know any of the girls ahead of time so it was somewhat awkward in the beginning but by the end everyone seemed to be having fun. Jr and the Rabbit Wrangler played nine holes of golf during the party and the WR had a 4 on our 163 yard par 3. I am usually happy with a 4 there. The WR on Friday went camping with a friend and his parents. I pick him up on Tuesday. Miss Em and the granddog went home yesterday. JR and I napped. We had the granddog for 2 1/2 weeks.

GREAT PAELLA

It is hard to believe it has been over a week since I last posted. However, last week I played golf "4" times. Wednesday and Thursday was a two day (obviously) tournament and then Saturday was Beat The Pro (we had to play better than they did) and Sunday was golfing with friends. Since the temperatures were in the 90"s I was pretty wiped out at the end of the day. Saturday night we were at a friend's house and their friend made a wonderful paella. I am posting the picture. It had spanish rice (brought over from spain), langostinos, cuddle fish, octopus, calamari, clams, shrimp and scallops. Since they know that I cannot eat scallops, those were put only on one side so that there was no way I could get one by mistake. It was fabulous. Yesterday four of us drove to Devil's Lake for a lunch and supposed boat ride that we purchased at a symphony league auction. It was the only day of rain but we needed it very much and it was cool to see the storm come across the lake. It was still a fun day. Rain does not bother me unless I am on vacation and it rains all the time.

FIREWORKS

Once again the annual Independence Day fireworks and picnic was held at the club. There were reports of a major thunderstorm approaching and so it was decided to start the fireworks a half hour early. It worked. The loud booming of the fireworks scared the storm away from us. We made it through the entire picnic and fireworks display dry. We took JR's dad. So enjoy the picture of "Grandpa" and the pictures of the fireworks.

JACK 'N JILL

I am not talking about the nursery rhyme although we did trudge up a few small hills and figuratively did fall down. I am talking about the annual golf tournament Jack 'n Jill. There are normally two "Jacks" and two "Jills" on each team. That does shift a little depending on how many sign up. The two guys on my team are actually good friends of mine so I knew there would not be any stress on my part. The other gal is a new member and was quite nervous until she saw that jovial manner we spoke to each other meant that we were not going to stress out and take the tournament too seriously. Yes we were competitive but not to the point of obnoxiousness. We did not win nor place in the top five but we were respectable and most important - had fun. The one guy on our team plays with the JR/Sr once a week and so far does not have a nickname. He did make a fantastic recovery shot from the pond on #16 to par the hole. I thought of several ideas but I decided to borrow from his Saturday group of guys and I will call him ABE.
