SUNSET

Yesterday was Sunrise and today is Sunset. In many ways not very different but the vantage point. Hilton Head Island was quite cold when I took the pictures. I had on my winter coat totally zipped up with gloves and a headband. Today it is at least sunny here and that makes the snow tolerable. I work a few hours this afternoon so a slow start to the week.

SUNRISE

Another weekend is under the belt. This was quiet. We arrived home from Hilton Head 9:30pm Thursday and I worked 9-7 on Friday. My grandson had a basketball game at 8am on Saturday but I was not up for the 2 1/2 hour drive either Friday or Saturday morning. So I did four loads of laundry, dusted the downstairs, changed the bedding and we were lucky to be invited to a friend's house for dinner. I freeloaded and did not bring anything. The dinner was delicious. Today I had wanted to go to the Art Museum for a mini concert in the Great Hall. I forgot that it was pro football playoff weekend. I did not really feel like going by myself. I finished a book I had started on Wednesday and I went to Walgreen's and printed some pictures. Some were from Hawaii a year ago in February and some were from Christmas. The Hawaii pictures went into a photo album with many years of pictures from Hawaii. The Christmas pictures were split. Some went into a frame with pictures of all 5 great-grandchildren for my father-in-law. One is of the cousins and it has it's own frame and the rest go in an ongoing Christmas photo album/scrapbook. The photos I have uploaded are sunrise in Hilton Head.

HILTON HEAD

We spent the better part of this past week in Hilton Head SC. It was not a good week to be a sun and beach seeker. After the first day the temperatures never rose above about 45 degrees. It is hard to try to get a bit of color when you are bundled up in a winter jacket and gloves. I would NEVER consider sitting outside at home when it is in the high 30's and low 40's. I did get some great sunrise and sunset pictures the three days there was sun. We went to the movies twice and saw "The King's Speech" and "True Grit". I finished "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and read 2/3 of the first Jack Reacher book by Lee Childs. That part was all great. The picture here is one of a lone surfer. Who would want to surf in 36 degree weather? That person must be nuts. I actually thought it was a very large bird who fell into the sea until they stood up on their board. You have to look carefully to see him/her. If you click on the picture it will enlarge.

RESOLUTIONS

So far I have not made any concrete resolutions. I started the New Year with a cold (a gift from the grandkids) and have not felt like doing anything let alone trying to implement resolutions. I am back to work and since I do not feel great I am not excited about that. I usually try to read the bible each day or each week (a resolution that unfortunately gets lost later in the year) but I cannot find my bible. I just cannot imagine where I put it. So I am not off to a great start. Once I get past the first week of the cold, I should get cracking on some things.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

New Years Eve has come and gone. It was a nice evening with friends. We had pork and sauerkraut for dinner and of course I served pork and sauerkraut also the next day. There were a few present who had never heard that those were considered to be good luck when comsumed on New Years Day. We all say that it is a German tradition so I googled it today and I found a mixed bag of reasons that it is a New Years Day good luck tradition. Some sources said that if the pig were fat then the pork represented abundance and the sauerkraut is from green cabbage and represents money. Other sources stated that wild boars were killed and served on New Years Day and the fact that the pig searches for food with his snout in a forward motion is considered looking forward to favorable things for the new year. All I know is that I have had some form of pork and sauerkraut served on New Years Day forever. It just does not feel right to not have it.
